Vacation Packing 101

Going on vacation is meant to be fun and relaxing, but sometimes packing can be a real headache! There are so many different things to consider when packing for your next trip. One benefit of using travel agents? We have a lot of experience packing, and know all the tips and tricks you’ll want before you start rolling out the suitcases!

Luggage:

It’s important to have a reliable piece of luggage when you're traveling! Whether by plane, train, or automobile, your luggage should be durable, secure, and easy to identify.

Having a few different sized bag options is great for when you’re traveling! Large suitcases for storing clothes, shoes, and big items, smaller bags or backpacks for your carry-on and all the day-to-day essentials.

The bags within your luggage are important too! Small waterproof pouches for toiletries and cosmetics, purses or wallets for on the go, and even extra foldable bags or duffles for any extra souvenirs you may be taking home!

What to Pack:

When it comes time to pack for your next adventure, it’s important to keep things organized! It can be overwhelming when it comes to figuring out what you need to bring with you for your trip. Start by deciding what essential items you need to bring and build from there.

One of the hardest things to pack, especially if you are working with limited space, are clothes! It’s always a good idea to check the weather ahead of your trip and try to pack accordingly. When trying to cut down on the amount of clothes you’re packing, try to pick items that can be easily reworn and made into several different outfits. This will help give you some flexibility and versatility in your wardrobe while traveling.

As you’re packing up your toiletry items, you may want to consider using either travel-sized products, or utilizing refillable travel-size containers. This will help you free up some room in your suitcase and help prevent potential waste or spillage of your favorite products!

Airplane Advice:

Packing is always hardest when you’re traveling by airplane. The luggage restrictions and varying requirements for airlines can often be confusing for first time fliers and make packing even more challenging.

While the specific size and weight requirements for bags vary depending on the airline, there are typically three luggage classifications when flying. Checked luggage, typically is given at an additional cost and limited to 50 lbs per bag, goes underneath the aircraft and is not accessible to you during your flight. It’s important not to pack any very valuable or irreplaceable items in these bags as they could potentially be lost by the airline. Carry-on bags are smaller and are stowed in the overhead compartments while you’re flying. Lastly, your personal item, whether it be a purse, backpack, or a pillow, goes under the seat in front of you and can be accessed easily while in the air. This is the best place to store important items that you want to keep with you. Both carry-on and personal items go through the TSA checkpoint at airport security, meaning that they are subject to additional restrictions when it comes to what you pack.

Before setting off on your next flight, make sure to double check the current TSA regulations as well as any additional restrictions set by the airline you are taking! Safe travels!
