When most people think of a cruise vacation, they picture enormous ocean liners but setting sail on a European river cruise with Avalon Waterways, gives a whole new meaning to going on a cruise!
Avalon Waterways is a company that exclusively runs river cruises, and while they have itineraries that take guests across the globe, their most popular cruises are in Europe. The Avalon Waterways European fleet is made up of fifteen ships that stop at ports in seventeen different countries! Unlike sailing on an ocean liner, river cruises are a much quieter, more intimate, experience. Each of Avalon’s boats accommodates around 150 guests, and cruises have a minimum age requirement of eight years old, however none of the boats have onboard activities or onshore excursions specifically tailored for children. This means that the majority of Avalon Waterways’ European cruises end up being an adult only experience.
Onboard the ship, Avalon Waterways has several options when it comes to accommodations. These include; deluxe staterooms, Royal suites, and Panoramic suites. Avalon’s Panoramic suites are the first of their kind in river cruising, and are equipped with wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, as well as an open-air balcony!
Similar to most other cruise lines, the majority of food and beverages are included during your sail with Avalon. Onboard, three meals are served daily, with more casual dining for breakfast and lunch, and then dinner in the Panorama Dining Room each evening. Guests can also enjoy complimentary beer, wine, and soft drinks with their lunch and dinner.
When it comes time to get off the ship and explore, Avalon Waterways offers a wide variety of excursions with something for every guest onboard! Avalon has three distinct categories of excursions-classic, discovery, and active-so guests can make a selection that is best suited to their needs and interests. Each excursion is led by a local guide, and groups are limited to around 24 people. For guests with specific interests, Avalon Waterways also offers several special interest and themed cruises, such as Culinary Experience, Festive Season, European History, and more!
After a day of exploring incredible European cities and a delicious dinner onboard, guests can relax and unwind! Join your fellow cruisers in the lounge or on deck under the stars, weather permitting, for some late night entertainment. This includes live music, dancing, and more!
